I was trying to create a slideshow from a Photos Smart Album I had created for the month of December 2016. I went into the Smart Album and selected View > Sort > Keep Sorted by Oldest First. This put all the photos in the Smart Album in chronological order from Dec 1 through Dec 31. Here's how I created the Slideshow in the same order as the Smart Album. I went to the Photos sidebar and found the December 2016 Smart Album that I had created and right-clicked on it to show the options. I then selected Create > Create Slideshow.
The dialog box asked me to name the Slideshow, and when I clicked the OK button, it created the slideshow in the same sorted order as the Smart Album. Please give it a try and let me know if it works for you as well.
